| Funky Chicken made from papier mache |
To make this funky Chicken you don't need to be Arty, but you do need a little patience. Okey dokey. Let's get cooking. You will need the following ingredients!! Oh and it's tres messy.
Pritt Stick papier mache paste

Method
Inflate both balloons. One larger for the body and t'other smaller for the head. Tie a knot in both.
Tear the newspaper into pieces ,approx. 4 inch wide x 6 inch long. Please do not hunt for a tape measure. Use smaller pieces for the smaller balloon
The balloons need at least 4 coverings each
If you are using the pritt paste follow instructions on the box.(I bought this paste off good old Ebay......it goes a long way and is quite cheap)
If you cant get this you can use a mix of white flour and water. mix well to a workable consistency.( NO lumps)
Place your balloon knot side down in a cup or similar just for ease of working with.
Now I prefer to use my hands but you may use a paint brush. Start covering the balloon with the paste, say a 1/3rd of the way down and then place your paper strips onto the glued area, again you can use a brush or your hands to smooth the paper. My Chicken is not terribly smooth( suave maybe) as I wanted a texture. Whichever is your desire, smooth or rough I really don't think it matters. You still need to make sure there are no air bubbles...a bit like wallpapering.
Continue covering the balloon as near to the knot ( the balloon is popped when the mache is completely dry.
3 layers is enough. This needs to dry out as mentioned above. You can then add more paper depending on how thick you want your chuck.
If you don't leave to dry, you will end up with the whole lot "caving in". Much patience is the key. I made up a load of balloons as I am impatient.
I shall be back, hopefully tomorrow for further instruction .Hope you can join me.
